The completion of this £1.0+m project, which involved the supply and erection of the structural steelwork for the podium of Building M7, was marked by a "Final-bolt" Ceremony. We were delighted that keith Whitmore of Westfield Shopping Towns conducted this for us. The podium structure sits at 31.000 metre level at the top of Building M7 and is the first stage of the upward extension of the building. After the Olympics, a further seven storeys are planned to be added. Building M7 overlooks the Olympic Park and the permanent podium steelwork design has been tweaked so that it can be used for TV broadcasts and as a corporate hospitality area during the Games.
This was a complex project but was completed in just 16 weeks from receipt of our order. Everyone involved agreed this was a tremendous achievement, particularly when we were faced with the challenges of working alongside and above the public, who were visiting the newly opened retail stores at Europe's largest shopping development.
This handover marked both the start-up and completion of the first BS2 project.
BS2 is a joint venture between Billington Structures Ltd and the Bourne Group.
